HOW TIME FLIES

I can't believe Mo's 1st birthday is right around the corner. It's surreal. The hubs and I were talking last weekend about how this past year has flown by and I couldn't help but get emotional. We waited so long for a child, and now that's she here, it's going by far too quickly.

We decided to have an Easter themed birthday party for her on Saturday, which should be fun. I'm sure we'll have lots of pics for ya'll! If you would have told me 2-3 years ago that I'd be planning a 1st birthday party for my little girl, I would have asked if you were smoking crack. Yet here I am putting little party favors together. Go figure!

GRIN & GIGGLE

I woke up this morning and heard Mo in her crib giggling and calling for the dogs. She calls them both "DEEEEEeeeee!" Keep in mind neither one of the dogs goes anywhere near her no matter how charming she may be!

I walked towards her room and stood in the doorway to observe her for awhile, and she was staring at the wall giggling, then turned and picked up her stuffed monkey, giggled at that, then looked at me and let out the biggest giggle of all! All day long it's been nothing but a cheesy grin and giggle-fest! It seems the older she gets, the happier she gets! This kid is such a joy! (EXCEPT FOR THE EATING PART. GRRRR.)

FEEDING = NOT FUN: PART 2

Seriously people. Feeding Mo has become a nightmare. She no longer wants to eat. Let me walk you through today. This morning she had about 6 small bites of oatmeal for breakfast and she was done (insert whine, cry, throw things, spit out food, wipe all over herself, etc. here).

She didn't want anything for lunch or dinner. She wouldn't even take one bite of anything I tried to give her. I feel like she's a newborn again because the only thing she'll take is formula or milk. Oh...and her baby crack (aka cheerios). I think she'd eat her crack all day long if we'd let her!

This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Please tell me it's just a phase....cause I'm about to lose my mind!

FEEDING = NOT FUN

Mo has always been a good eater! She ate everything - even the things she didn't like! Other than her usual messy marvin tactics, feeding time was a breeze.

Well, times are a changin'! It's become MESSY. Not the usual kind of messy, but the must.give.her.bath.right.after.feeding messy. When she decides to accept a spoon full of food (which is a rare occasion these days), she usually follows it with putting her hand in her mouth, grabbing whatever food remnants are in there, and then rubbing those remnants all over her hair, eyes, highchair, clothing and the like. And when she's not in the playing mood, she'll simply refuse to open her mouth to accept the spoon. She's even gone so far as to knock the spoon or jar of food right out of my hand and send them flying across the room. No matter how careful I am, she still catches me off guard from time to time!

I'm not sure if it's because she's losing interest in eating, or if she's starting to get fussy about what she's eating. Either way, Momma don't like it one bit!!Anyone wanna come feed my kid? Remember to bring your shower supplies and a change of clothes!

It's a Hair Don't

Mo's hair is getting pretty long, but not quite long enough to cut. As a daddy it is my job to put Mo's hair in the most bizzaro forms and shapes. Here is an example. Isn't the cheezy smile the cutest?!?

NORMAL PARENT OR PARANOID FREAK? YOU DECIDE!

Ever since Mo came along, I've been thinking a lot about preparing a will. In fact, I've already been in contact with an attorney and am working on the lengthy, grueling process. The strange thing is that I never even gave a second thought to having a will pre-Mo, but for some reason I have this sudden fear of death. I know...it sounds crazy.

A friend of mine said that once she had kids, she became paranoid about things. For instance, whenever she and her husband are traveling anywhere together, they take separate airplanes in case something happens. She said every decision they make centers around making sure their kids have at least one parent should something tragic occur. Sounds a bit paranoid to me, but in some ways, I can understand where she's coming from.

As for my sudden fear of death, I think it's been exacerbated lately by some things that have happened around me. First, my boss's sister-in-law died suddenly of an aneurysm and she was only in her early thirties. Then her husband died a few weeks later. And yesterday we found out that a neighbor (several houses down from us) suddenly died on Saturday in his house from a heart attack - and he was 32 and perfectly healthy. Three people in their earlier thirties died in a matter of a few months. What's going on?

I know I can't control what happens. When God says my time is up, it's up. I also know there's no point in dwelling on this fear, yet why can't I seem to get over this weird feeling? Is this a normal new parent thing? Or am I a paranoid freak?
