The school district is very important to me. When we first moved to this area we lived in a school district that I didn't want my kids going to. Luckily we were right on the district line and moved about 2 miles down the road and got in the district we wanted. It means a lot to me and my kids are having a great school experience but you are very right about problems being everywhere. I don't think it matters if you're in a city or a suburb. Problems don't discriminate.

Same here. The school district is the main reason we bought our house where we did. I grew up in the school district you're referring to. Trust me, it's not just the drugs you should be worried about. This school district has many other problems such as lack of qualified teachers, safety issues, curriculum issues, etc.

It's pretty important to us. There are a few cities that we would not move to just for the sake of the racism that goes on between black & white.

Do they have charter or pac schools around there? Can you open enroll her in a school maybe closer to one of your workplaces?

Not sure about wanting to live in the city limits though... but then again, our city limits are BALTIMORE. And Baltimore is bad bad bad. The public schools? Wouldn't touch 'em with a ten-foot pole. The taxes are killer too...

I too am big on the school district thing and I think I know what city you are talking about....since I just realized you probably don't live too far from us....If is is the one I am thinking about, I say, if you buy the house don't send Mo to school there. It's not good. At all.

I had a funny feeling you lived close (I remember you writing about Community days and thinking, Nah, it couldn't be) and then when you wrote about the city thing, I knew it had to be Reading! Then I noticed the Reading Royals thing and that sealed the deal!
I used to work at Cumru (for 6 years!) and I lived on Sterley Street for 2 years!
