Mobile Mo

Ok, once is a freak accident. Twice is a problem. This time Mo catapulted herself out of the playpen when I laid her down for a nap this afternoon. I wasn't even 10 steps away before she dived out head first. And she screamed her head off. How she's still in one piece is beyond my comprehension.

So now that she has learned to throw herself out of both the crib and playpen, what's a mother to do? I'm scared to leave the kid alone. And I'm freaking out about her being in the crib tonight. I think this week we're going to start looking for a toddler bed and a gate for her doorway.

Is the crib matress down in the lowest position? As the mother of 3, currently a 2.5 year old wild child, I can't say this has ever happened to me but I thought of the matress. My 2.5 year old climbs out of the crib.
My personal opinion, I wouldn't do the toddler bed yet, but that's just me. I'm keeping my kid in that crib as long as I can, but he doesn't thow himself out of it either.
She could always be doing it for attention. Let her bang her head a few times and get one hell of headache...she'll stop.

I think there is a net/tent/roof crib attachment you can buy for this sort of thing. How scary! either that or a trampoline beside the crib to bounce he back in! Good luck!

Gotta say, I think I'd go for the toddler bed in this case too. Ben is still too short to achieve this particular feat, but the minute he looks like he might be able too, I think we'll be heading out to find the toddler bed.

Is your crib, by chance, a convertible one? Ours supposedly turns into a toddler bed if you take one side off of it. That might be a short-term solution.

The crib mattress is down in the lowest position. We observed her last night and it's apparent that she could still get out. She's definitely doing it for attention. Ever since our vacation, she's been going through some kind of separation anxiety thing. She has NEVER been like that before. I'm hoping it's a phase, but I think I'm still gonna go for the toddler bed. As much as I don't want to do that, I'm more concerned about her safety.

Sounds like Daddy's girl.
Daddy slept in a twin sizebed since he was 9 mos. old. He was always getting out of his bed.
It was safer to get him out of his crib then to leave him in it.

I think it makes sense to switch to the toddler bed. She seems pretty determined NOT to stay in there!

Also, Brandon had a lot of separation type issues after our vacation too. He started throwing more tantrums and cyring in the car all the time and crying when we dropped him at daycare. Those toddler sure do love their routines and when it gets disrupted...Trouble! Good news though, it didn't take him too long to settle back in.

Yikes, I guess she really is a monkey! We put the boys into toddler beds early too. They take up less space and they both loved it, although then you can't actually keep them as confined, they tend to play when they are supposed to be sleeping.

And thanks for mentioning the seperation, maybe I don't want to go on vacation after all! Oh and they live just outside Toronto in Markham!

That's why I have always waited as long as I could on the toddler bed, the freedom they get once the crib goes. And once the crib goes, there's no turning back.
Good luck with it!
