MY KITCHEN NEEDS A MAKEOVER
Anyone ever been through a kitchen redo? Sucks I tell you. We are currently planning to gut our ugly, inefficient 50's kitchen and start from scratch. The problem is that the kitchen is small and we've been working with a designer to get the most out of this space. This designer has come up with 4 different layouts and I'm still not happy with it. Problem you ask? We want an eat-in kitchen and this is what we have to work with: a small working kitchen, and a step-down breakfast nook directly behind it, which is separated by what was the back exterior brick wall of our home. (Previous owners enclosed a small back porch). The ideal plan would be to combine the two rooms and create one large eat-in kitchen. But tearing down that brick wall would not only be a major structural issue, it would cost a fortune.
Equally challenging is the fact that we're picky as hell. Fortunately, the hubs and I like the same things, but what we like ISN'T in the kitchen showroom. We didn't like any of their cabinets, hardware or countertops. What's that you say? We should try another place? Nope. We don't like anything anywhere! Why? Dunno. We had that same problem when trying to purchase furniture. So anyway, we have to sink in a bunch of money to have our cabinets custom built and painted, we have to find our own hardware, and we have to find our own sink. So much for having a designer! All these decisions to make and you know what the hubs is concerned about...how can we get internet access in the kitchen?? Can someone stop by and smack him in the head for me? :)
Oh - anyone see those new refrigerators with the TV built in? At first I thought they were stupid, but now I'm thinking it'd be kinda cool having something to do while cooking. Yeah, I know...I don't cook. But maybe I would if I could be mindlessly entertained at the same time. Too bad they're expensive as all get out and seeing as how everything else in our kitchen is gonna cost us an arm and a leg, this luxury will have to be sacrificed! Although, I think we may spring for the GE Profile Advantium Microwave Oven. Those things are awesome!

How fun! Not the figuring it out part, but the after part. You'll have to post pics of your new kitchen. I looked at "Mo's House" and your house is TOTALLY cute! We actually have that same red wall in our dining room accent wall. The rest is cream. But really, it's a totally cute house.
We need to paint.. hrm.. you've inspired me...

Our first house was a total "fixer upper" and we gutted pretty much the entire house, so I hear what you are saying! It all ends up costing more in the end and taking longer than you think...but it is a great sense of satisfaction when it is done.

I love mo's room and all the pictures of your house (I looked at Mo's room when formulating ideas for babybellas) and think we have similar tastes. I am sure whatever you decide will be FAB!

Hubby and I are the same way. We have been looking for new bedroom furniture for three years. I've been to every store and even demanded to see the catalogs they hide behind the counters so you'll just buy what's on the floor. Can't find ANYTHING we like. I also would like to so some cosmetic work on our kitchen and I KNOW it will just as hard, if not harder than furniture... good luck you guys! :)

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having. I wish my hubby took intrest in how things look. He could care less. He wants us to move into a trailor anyway.
I love my kitchen. Well other then the flooring, it's ugly. Our dinningroom is carpeted too, which i hate. We will be putting in hardwood flooring as soon as we get out of some of the debt we are under.
