WARNING: THIS IS GOING TO MAKE SOME WAVES.

If I loved the color purple and you hated the color purple, does that make me any of the following:

idiotic
stupid
evil
heartless
uneducated

Many of our friends and aquaintances are Democratic or Independent, and during this election year, I saw a side to some of them that has been ridiculous to say the least.

I voted for Bush - for several reasons. I do not think he has been or ever will be the "perfect" President. He has many flaws. But when faced with a choice between Bush or Kerry, I chose the candidate whose beliefs and values are most aligned with my own. That is the beauty of this country. We all have a choice. We all have a right to our own opinions.

If my friends hate Bush, more power to them. They are entitled to their own opinions and I can respect that. What I don't respect is their choice to berate those who do not share their views. I have news for you people:

I AM NOT AN IDIOT, STUPID, EVIL OR ANY OF THE ABOVE BECAUSE I VOTED FOR BUSH. I AM SIMPLY A PERSON WITH A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN YOU.

If you want to hate Bush, be my freakin' guest. But do not insult the people you are supposed to be "friends" with by disrespecting their right to make a different choice.

(OK - I feel better now!)

Well said. :) Oh, and I voted for him too... so you've got some company.

I am with you! So many of my friends/family are taking this election personally. My boss said today he might as well move to another country. I looked at him and said, "Yeah, why don't you move to some other country where you have no protection of your rights!" Seriously, I am thrilled to be an American and I don't think that who the President is as important as the fact that we have one. And me? I was the one holding up the line going BUsh? Kerry? bUsh? Kerry? So I win either way!

MG, If your "friends" said those things to you just because you exercised your right to vote then they're not your friends. It's that same us against them mentality that has our country in the shape that it's in! There should only be an us because we're all in this together.

AMEN, SISTA! :-)

Yea, I voted for Bush, too. The funny thing is, even though I'm a minority in my state (Kerry won in Oregon), we're obviously NOT a minotiry overall. He DID win.

Tell your people THAT. ;-)

I am one of those who takes it personally too. You are given a chance to change the way things are and either you didn't do any research about this man's history as our president, just don't care about this country and where we are going to be in 2008, or you are just as evil and stupid as him and need comfort in knowing you have a like-minded friend in the Big House.

When you say that your values and beliefs are closely aligned with someone like Shrub, I would wonder about your intelligence and sanity as well. What would you think of someone who said their belief systems was closely matched to that of Hitler. I mean sure the man had some great accomplishments and ideas (vegetarian, incredible artist, create a hard working affordable car that didn't cost much to build or to own, the AUTOBAHN, .... but all in all
he was pretty bad).

The people that see through the politic campaigning see that sort of behavior in Shrub. If any of my friends said that out of Bush and Kerry they picked Bush because it matched THEIR ideals ... I would send them packing. Getting called ignorant would be the least of their
worries -- I don't know anyone who wants to share their life and free time with a warmonger wannabe.

So I am curious which values and beliefs do you two share?

) Gay men and women are second class citizens.

) Women have no rights over their own body.

) The Environment is just there keeping your oil safe until you have time to get to it.

) Being in hock up to your eye balls is just the American Dream. Deficit schmeficit.

) It's okay to lie about your military service record to military men and women if it means they will go over and do the job for you.

) Anyone who doesn't believe in the same God I believe in is going to my Hell and they have nothing good to contribute to society.

Yeah ... I'd wanna be your friend.

Here is what I believe...

) Gay men and women are second class citizens.

I have quite a few gay friends. At no time do I feel they are second class citizens. If they want domestic partner rights, that's fine with me. I do however believe in the traditonal role of marriage being between a man and a woman. So does that mean I'm for treating gays as second class citizens? No, not at all. I think to say that someone that is against gay marriage is against gays is a generalization.

) Women have no rights over their own body.
Since I am a man, I have no right to speak on this, but here is at least what I can say.. Should abortion be illegal, no. It is a person's choice, but I feel that people should use common sense for getting laid. Half of un-wanted pregnancies wouldn't exist if people just used their brains. Should partial birth abortions be illegal, Yes. However, I feel that abortion shouldn't be illegal if the life of the mother is at stake or the woman was brutally raped.

) The Environment is just there keeping your oil safe until you have time to get to it.

We are a technically advanced society. There has to be a way to open Alaska and preserve the environment. Instead of just *going in* there, why not put it as a challenge to companies to spend their R&D money to find the a way that would not harm the environment. If it was proven that there wasn't a way, then it shouldn't happen. But why not explore the possibilites first?

) Being in hock up to your eye balls is just the American Dream. Deficit schmeficit.

Is the deficit a concern, yes it is. But economist has shown that the deficit in comparison to the GDP is well in-line and not that harmful to the overal economic picture.

) It's okay to lie about your military service record to military men and women if it means they will go over and do the job for you.

Both candidates military past were severely in question. This is something that I didn't base my outcome on.

) Anyone who doesn't believe in the same God I believe in is going to my Hell and they have nothing good to contribute to society.

I disagree with this comment. Just because one calls them self a Christian doesn't mean that everyone else is a waste of human flesh. One attracts flies with Honey not with fire.

So, you see, that one can be a Republican and vote Republican and still hold somewhat moderate views. Please don't lump all those who voted for Bush into the far-right wing extremist category.

) Gay men and women are second class citizens.

"I have quite a few gay friends. At no time do I feel they are

that mean I'm for treating gays as second class citizens? No,
not at all. I think to say that someone that is against gay

If you are to treat both Gay and Straight alike, and both are
to be equal, but not give Gays the right to marriage, then don't
give Married couples Tax breaks, or other 'benefits' just because
of their union. I personally think any two people ( no matter
what sex ) should have the same options of happiness, but since
the 'right wing' Xtians won't ever let them be married, at least
cease the 'rewards' for married citizens. Oh, I guess this also
means that common law marriage doesn't apply if the two are same
sex?? Oh well...

) Women have no rights over their own body.

"Since I am a man, I have no right to speak on this, but here
is at least what I can say.. Should abortion be illegal, no.
It is a person's choice, but I feel that people should use

wouldn't exist if people just used their brains. Should
partial birth abortions be illegal, Yes. However, I feel

is at stake or the woman was brutally raped."

So, if she was pleasantly raped, it's ok? Sure, screw her, she
was probably asking for it anyway... right??

) The Environment is just there keeping your oil safe until
you have time to get to it.

"We are a technically advanced society. There has to be a way

Oh, I've got an idea... Why not put that R&D money into creating
cleaner alternative fuel vehicles... Electric, or otherwise.
Then we wouldn't have even needed to bomb the crap out of Iraq.
Oops.. I forgot.. that was a liberation war... not a 'I want to
control your oil' war... My bad..

) Being in hock up to your eye balls is just the American
Dream. Deficit schmeficit.

"Is the deficit a concern, yes it is. But economist has shown
that the deficit in comparison to the GDP is well in-line
and not that harmful to the overall economic picture."

Ya know, I'm not much on financial analysis... So, the best I
can come up with is that I know I hate being in debt, period.
So, any debt must be worse, than no debt.

) It's okay to lie about your military service record to
military men and women if it means they will go over and do
the job for you.

"Both candidates military past were severely in question. This
is something that I didn't base my outcome on."

Lets see... the real question. Which one got kicked out for
doing Cocaine? And which one served his time, maybe with some
disagreement for the tasks which the military participated in,
but, served his time none the less?? ( BTW: I served 6 years
as a Reactor Operator on a Fast attack Sub. I did my time, I
got out. I didn't agree with everything my sub was tasked to
do, but guess what... I did what was required of me while I was
in. That's all that can be asked. Complete your job. Who
cares if Kerry didn't agree with what was going on... Many
people did disagree, and still do. )

) Anyone who doesn't believe in the same God I believe in is
going to my Hell and they have nothing good to contribute
to society.

"I disagree with this comment. Just because one calls them
self a Christian doesn't mean that everyone else is a waste
of human flesh. One attracts flies with Honey not with fire."

Ok.. Do you believe in separation of Church and State? If so,
then why is it OK for the Leader of this country to push his
'Religious' beliefs on the American people through a
constitutional amendment? ( yes, I'm back tracking a bit.. )
I don't think anyone should use my tax money to amend anything
that has granted so much freedom, to some away. Who knows,
next, Dubbya might want to repeal the right to bear arms, or
freedom of speech... ( Guess it's a good thing I got all this
out now.. eh? ) Oh, and when's the last time you saw a Pagan
selling religion door to door? Cummon people... STOP PUSHING
YOUR BELIEFS ON OTHERS. This country was founded on freedom,
both of religion.. and FROM religion. Get over yourselves,
just cause you like it, doesn't mean everyone else needs it to!

was either candidate in this election an Outstanding choice for
President... Maybe not, but then again, has there ever been an
'Outstanding' president?? Ah... that's debatable.. The best we
can do is pick the better of the two that we are given to choose
from. And the way I see it... Dubbya screwed the pooch on his
first 4 years... Let someone else give 'er a try.
